Tim Price Bloggin' For D'Addario Woodwinds- Coleman Hawkins transcription masterclass.

~Disorder At The Border .....Coleman Hawkins transcription.Part 1. This was published in 2007 Sonic Magazine from Germany ( also in Dutch as well) I was writing monthly workshop columns for SONIC,and I did a part 1 of this, which is this. I'll post part 2 in a few days..I'm posting this here- it's a blues- but some of the most profound content and substance. A few folks asked about blues solos to learn, and if you start here, you can't go wrong. ........ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d18S8MlNYc....Here is part 2 of my transcription. These were published in SONIC MAGAZINE in Germany in 2007....in a two part series of workshops I did on Coleman Hawkins. Bb key for tenor. - This might be one of the greatest four bar phrases in jazz...one of them for sure. Burning. This is part of a series of study's I use with my private students called " HAWK CONCEPTIONS." I USE IT IN CLINICS AND WORKSHOPS AS WELL. This is a perfect line to get into tempo- and like Hawkins does for vocabulary. Any tenor player worth their salt- has listened to Hawkins in a very important way. These are from bars...73 to 76...through the keys. CHECK IT OUT ; NEXT....More12 key study on this solo ; Listen hard to this solo...Chromatics everywhere. These two measures area hint of his ideas.I take these thru the keys to help the guys see/hear the velocity of this genius called Coleman Hawkins. ...If you play tenor saxophone..you MUST know who this genius is. Search him out on on YOU TUBE and enjoy one of the real ones....Hope this opens some ears and minds. Thank you - TIM PRICE
